On Saturday April 27th, the Varsity 4+ earned Gold Medals at the girls first ever appearance in the Philadelphia Catholic League Rowing Championships!! The Varisty 4+ consists of the same four that made an appearance this past fall at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, MA, less a coxswain change. Coxing the crew was senior Maria Urban, followed by senior stroke-seat and captain, Lea Millio, sophomore three-seat, Anna Savage, junior two-seat Maddie Giovagnoli and senior bow-seat, Katie Mascitelli. Although this panda lineup rowed together in the fall, this was the first time that this specific lineup rowed together this spring in a race and they only had a couple of practices to get their chemistry down, which for alot of crews at every level of rowing takes nothing but time and miles. Next weekend the Panda Crew will compete in the Philadelphia City Championships on Sunday May 5th. Family and Friends are always welcome to come down and watch! The grill will be fired up and there will be plenty of food to keep you cheering for the Friar and Panda crews all day long!

September 25th 2013 7:30 PM - Bonner-Prendie Crew Information Night
Welcome Panda's Freshman/Novice Rowers!
If you are interested in trying something new, you're in the right place. Crew is a great sport to get involved in, and one that Prendie is proud to offer, while many other high schools do not. Prendie is a club sport with a long-standing successful tradition in crew! We row on the Schuylkill River right out of Historic Boathouse Row in Philadelphia. When we are not on the water, we train at Prendie's Fitness Center, right on the school campus.
Philadelphia is one of the largest rowing epicenters in the country. It is a unique sport and the competition is fierce.
If you have interest in rowing for Prendie, please come to the meeting. Also fill out the prospective athlete information form, located under the "file" tab and email it to Terry Mascitelli, Head Assistant Coach for Prendie Rowing at trence76@gmail.com. The coach will add you to the freshman/novice distribution list and more detailed information will be forthcoming over the next few days.

On Saturday, February 9, the Panda crew took to Drexel University to compete in the Center City Slam, a 2000-meter individual ergometer competition that hosts high school, college, masters and elite event categories. Individuals that the Panda’s competed against came from high schools such as Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Baldwin School, Springside School, Bishop Eustace Prep School, Conestoga High School, Merion Mercy Academy and Oakcrest High School. Additionally, individuals from regional clubs including Owen J. Roberts Crew Club, Philadelphia City Rowing, and South Jersey Rowing Club also competed in the events.
The Panda’s sophomore novice rowers put on quite a display. Sophomore rower Emily Sheetz finished in the top three earning a bronze medal in the Women’s High School Novice Category with a time of 8:05. Close behind and finishing in 4th place was sophomore novice rower Brittany Rementer. She finished with a time of 8:07.
In the Women’s High School Lightweight category, which is a category for high school girls that do not exceed 130 pounds on race day, Victoria Brooks, a sophomore novice rower racing in a varsity event, finished 6th overall with a time of 7:59.9.
While these were some of the highlights, congratulations are in order to all of the girls who competed for the Panda’s at this thrilling event. Complete race results can be found www.centercityslam.com under the results tab!

This past weekend, Ray Savage, father of sophomore and varsity rower Anna Savage and freshman rower Claire Savage, came up to the fitness center with his painting crew to give the fitness center a much needed makeover. The professional painters, part of Ray’s company, Ray Savage Painting in Drexel Hill, selflessly devoted their time and material spending a day and half painting the trim Panda Maroon and all of the walls gray. A lot of wall patching took place as well to repair the walls damaged from wear and tear over the years. Further improvements are yet to come…. Stay tuned!

A few weeks ago, Panda Rowing made their way down to Wilmington Youth Rowing Association’s boathouse on the Christina River in Wilmington, DE to utilize their indoor rowing tanks for training. This was the freshman and novice rowers first exposure to indoor rowing tanks. The indoor rowing tanks give the rowers a stable platform where coaches provide them with individual instruction to learn the rowing stroke in a stress free and controlled environment. Mirrors on both sides of the water-filled tanks allow the rowers to “see” their own technique. Needless to say, the girls enjoyed the indoor tanks and learned a lot. When asked what she liked most about the indoor rowing tanks, senior and varsity rower Taj McHenry says “I like that we can work on technique and that we can see our own stroke in the mirrors.”

The "Winter Training Schedule" runs from December until the 3rd weekend of February. The 3rd weekend of February, weather permitting, is the first chance high schools are allowed to begin training on the river for the Spring Season. If conditions are not favorable, the winter training schedule will be followed until weather conditions improve. The spring training schedule for "river" practices will be posted by the end of January.
