Announcements and Important Events
Hello MBAP Parents/Guardians!
Welcome to a new year of athletics at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast. My name is Ethan Skinner and I am a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) employed by ATI Physical Therapy. I am contracted to be the LAT at MBAP for the current 2019-2020 school year. I am looking forward to another great and successful year supporting your MBAP athletes. I appreciate the opportunity to provide the quality care our student athletes deserve. In order to facilitate efficient care I would like to put into writing some procedures that you need to be aware of as a parent/guardian of a student athlete. It is important for you to be aware of these policies so that we can get your child back to playing as soon as possible. My goal as your child’s athletic trainer is to exceed your expectations by providing the highest quality of care in a friendly and encouraging environment, allowing them to play at their highest competitive level and return them to competition as quick as possible.
It is very important that ALL injuries, whether they occur at a team practice or game (home or away), get reported to me as soon as possible. The resources I have available in the athletic training room and through my employment with ATI are designed to get our athletes the best and quickest care available. In addition to evaluations performed by me, I have the ability to schedule appointments with some of the area’s top orthopedic and sports medicine doctors within 24-48 hours. We also have injury screenings by ATI physical therapists: the injury screenings are FREE to you and are available at all ATI locations.
Returning an Athlete to Play
It is a school and PIAA policy that any time an athlete seeks care from a physician for an athletic injury, that athlete may not return to play until we have a written note from the physician releasing the athlete back to full participation. There is no exception to this rule. Parent notes are unacceptable.
PIAA concussion policy states “any player who exhibits signs, symptoms or behaviors associated with a concussion shall be immediately removed from contest and may not return to play until cleared by a licensed physician of medicine or osteopathic medicine.” I will make the decision if a student athlete may possibly have a concussion in which case the student athlete must be cleared to play by an M.D. or a D.O. Once cleared by a physician, I will monitor their condition and then utilize a 5 day return to play protocol.
Athletic Training Room Hours
During the school year, I will arrive in the athletic training room office by 1:30pm or earlier if teams’ departure for away competition dictates. Please encourage your athletes to come to the athletic training room before practice if they need my assistance. I will be present for all home contests and for away football games as well as for most practices. My schedule will be posted outside the athletic training room.
