In 1979, Krmpotich moved from Silver Bay, MN to train with Penn AC in Philadelphia, where he qualified to represent the United States at the Pan American Games in his first year rowing with Coach Nash.
His first World Championship Bronze Medal came in 1986, as a member of the M8+ where he rowed in the 4 seat with other US Olympians, Edward Ives, Thomas Kiefer, Tom Terwillger, Kevin Still, and Andrew Sudduth.
In 1988, Krmpotich, then 33 years of age, qualified to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea., where he and his teammates won a Silver Medal in the M4- (four without coxswain) Krmpotich rowed with fellow Penn AC teammates, Richard Kennelly Jr. (Harvard University), Thomas Bohrer (FIT), and Raoul Rodriguez (Tulane University).
To add to Dave's distinguishing achievements, a few days before the Olympic Games were officially underway, Coach Krmpotich was selected by the entire US Olympic Delegation (i.e. All athletes and coaches of all sports disciplines at the Olympics) to be the lone US athlete to carry the Olympic flame in the Olympic Torch Relay.
Coach Krmpotich has been the Head Coach for the Monsignor Bonner High School Team for over 25 years, and has coached many athletes who have been recruited by top schools in the country and who have represented the country at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
